A BATCH OF FIRES.

CHILD BURNT TO DEATH. New Plymouth, to-day. A house on the Denbigh road, between Waipuka and Midhurst, was burnt down on Saturday afternoon. Tho occupiers were at New Plymouth at the time and a Child of theirs was burnt to death. Wellington, to-day. Whiteman's sawmill at Waikanae was destroyed by fire on Friday last. The building and machinery were insured for i £500. Nothing was saved. The origin of the fire is unknown. Auckland, to-day. There were two fires at Arch-hill yesterday resulting in damage to over £2000. Tho first was a four roomod cottage insured for £150 in the London and Lancashire. Tho furniture also was insured. It originated in a cooking oven. The second fire destroyed five shops with dwellings attached. The outbreak occurred in Warren's grocery. The first three shops were owned by Young & Warren and were insured for £800 in the Union, which had re-insured part. The other two shops were owned by Hellaby and were insured for £375. Warren's grocery stock was insured for £150 in tho South British and the furniture for £100. The loss was total. The second shop was occupied by Warden, bootmaker, who was insured for £200. The third shop waa McKellar's, confectioner, who was uninsured. The fourth was Lambert's and was insured for £50 in the Imperial. The last shop was Nettingham's, bootmaker, £bO in the Norwich.
