NATIVE LAND ADMINISTRATION ACT,
" Maori " writes : — Sir, — This enactment in its pristine state does not omen tranquility for thiß district if it can be judged from the following facts : On the 9th January, 18S7, a notice (printed by the Government Printer and drawn by the Chief Judge of the Native Lands Court) was sent by a person who was desirous of availing himself of the provisions of the Statute heading this letter. The notice was registered and the address " The Commissioner Native Land Administration, Wellington," and it was fianked by the Registrar, Gisborne. This notice was returned uudcr cover, duly franked by fcho Government officer in • charge of "The Native Land Administration Office, Wellington " in these words, "Not in Wellington District." Can anyone explain the meaning of such conduct, and especially the propogators of the Statute ?"
