A SCHOOL AT MAKAURI.

A large meeting of householders took place in the school room at Makauri for the purpose of considering the advisability of asking the Board of Education to assist them in establishing a, public school in that district, as the district has been long neglected, and the distance that some of the younger children have to walk to school daily, either under a burning sun or through the rain, makes the necessit}' more urgent. Mr Caldwell was iti the chair. The following gentlemen were elected as a Committee : — Messrs Barber, Hansen, Matthews, McKenzie, A. Hansen and Caldwull. It was proposed by Mr Barber, seconded by MiMatthews, that Mr Caldwell be chairman of the said school committee, which v.:is carried unanimously. It was also proposed t hat Captain Tucker should be asked to give a Hciiool site. After a vote of thanks bad been passed the Chairman,, the meeting broke up. The Coimniltee meet again on Tuesday.
