THE CAIN MURDER.
Dunedin, to-day. The Hall trial began this morning. Chief Justice Way, of South Australia, was accommodated on the Bench. The Court was crowded. Ten jurors applied to be let off, and seven succeeded. Mr Haggitt and Mr White are for the Crown, and Mr Chapman and Mr Denniston for the prisoner. Each challenged three. Mr Haggitt, in his opening, said he would endeavor to show the effects were similar -$ c in this case to another case of attempted poisoning. Mr Chapman objected, saying at the proper stage he would contend that such evidence was inadmissible. His Honor thought it undesirable to mention it, and upon Mr Haggitt urging that he was justified, said there was no need for discusßion on the point, and he was satistied hia ruling was correct.
