Chatfield) left for Melbourne via Southern ports at 5.45 p.m. yesterday with the following passengers : Mrs Barton ; Messrs Barton, Yates, Bringham, Sievwright, Booth (2), and Williams. , The cutter Spitfire arrived this morning from the Thames with timber. The barque Alas tor left Auckland on Thursday for London. She took 989 bales wool and other cargo, valued at £24,035. The whaling ship Horatio arrived at Russell on Wednesday from a cruise. She has taken 100 barrels of sperm and 120 of whale oil since May. Two sailors have died during the cruise, the last being buried at sea on Monday last. Capt, Morse tried to make Norfolk Island twice, but was frustrated, the first time by strong adverse gales and the second time by a succession of calms. He consequently bore away for the Bay of Islands as the crew were showing symptoms of Bcurvy, and required a change of food. Lytteiton, to-day. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co.'s s.s. Arawa sailed at noon to-day for Plymouth via Rio de Janiero. Napier, to-day. The s.b. Wairarapa arrived from Gisborne at 4.30 a.m.
