Mr Jellicoe remarked that if small traders were compelled by Act of Parliament to be expert accountants, he feared but few would embark in commercial pursuits. His Honor replied that he did not expect tradespeople to be actuaries, but he certainly considered that it behoved people who obtained credit from their fellow- tradesfolks to show in black and white what they did with the proceeds of goods entrusted to them. Several publicans who had come before him in the Bankruptcy Court had, he said, signally failed in this respect. Addressing a bankrupt who was before him in support of her application for a discharge, hia Honor expressed the hope that if in future she went into business she would pay all bills by cheque or petty cash, and not out of the till.
