A SAD OCCURRENCE AT SEA.

A sad occurrence took place during the voyage of the ship Melbourne from London to Port Phillip. It is rendered still more melancholy by the fact that three of the four men who gallantly went to the rescue of the one who fell overboard were drowned. On Sept. 8 a man named Carlson fell overboard. The vessel at the time was sailing fast, and as Boon as possible a boat was lowered, and the chief, second, and third officers and one able seaman manned it. The boat capsized soon after touching the water, and another was immediately lowered, but though Carlson was rescued, the chief officer, Mr Vale ; the second officer, Mr Rutherford ; and the Beaman Lewis were drowned.
