SHIPPING NEWS.

The Wairarapa (Captain Chatfield) arrived from Sydney and Auckland at 4.30 yesterday afternoon with : — Misses McDonald, Moore, McMillan, Conway, and Joyce ; Mesdames Kennedy and infant, Dunlop, McDonald and 2 children, Finlay, Moore and Adams ; Messrs Russell, Bowker, Lingman, South, Grant, Hardy, Dunlop, Finlay, Donnell, Tracey, Blanc ; Masters Sykes aud Blackmore. She left at 2.30 this morning for South with :— Misses Pavetor, Reeves, McKenzie, Ward, Kempthorne, Porter (2), and Rosie ; Messrs Maude, Rees, Bowen, Lambert, McKenzie, Kirkpatrick, Evans, Pago and Gibson ; Masters Ward, Rees and Bourke and three natives. She also took 3 casea honey from G. Stephenson, 9 bales skins and 32 hides, D. M. Orr. The Waihora (Capt. McGee) leaves Napier to-day and arrives in the Biy at daylight First and last launch at 5.30. The following steamers arrive from South next week : Waihora on Sunday, Maiti on Thuraday, Riugarooma on Saturday, and Manapouri on Sunday, Feb; 7. The Southern Cross (Capt. Spinks) leavea Auckland at 5 to-night and arrives at Gisborne on Monday morniug. First launch on arrival ; last at 4 p.m. The schooner Gisborne (Capt Skinner) put back to Giaborne owing to the heavy head wind outside. The cutter Leo alao put back to take <n more ballast. The achooner Columbia (Capt McCornville) leaves for South to-day. A Syduey telegram says : — The Marine Board reserved its decision in the recent enquiry re the collision between the steamers Van Yange and the Civility, when the latter Bank off Bradley's Head. At the official inquiry into the collision between the steamera Tangihua and Minnie Casey the evidence showed tbat the collision waa caused by the Tangihua being left in charge of an inexperienced hand whilst the oaptain and mate went below to partake of coffee, and who starboarded the halm instead of porting when in close proximity to the Minnie. Captain Seymour therefore had to pay the costs of the enquiry — making his cup of coffee very dear. Port Chalmers, to-day. The Tongariro arrived at the Heads all well at 2.30 this morning. The tug went out, but owing to the fresh N.E. wind and heavy Bea it was not deemed prudent to ransphip the mails and passengers , and the vessel left for Wellington at 4.50. '
