A DARING BURGLARY.
GREAT JEWELLERY ROBBERY,
Wellington, this day. A most daring and extensive jewellery robbery was perpetrated some time last night or early this morning at Jenness' jeweller's shop in Willis street. The robbers effected an entrance at the back of the building, which faces the harbor, by cutting out the panel of the door, and thus turning tho key. They carried a locally manufactured lantern which had been arranged so as to be darkened. They took 20 gold watches, 40 silver watches, 20 solid gold alberts, 15 English alberts, 20 ladies' gold alberts, 40 to 45 gold necklets, 24 silver necklets, 12 ladies silver alberts, 6 dozen silver rings, 10 gold brooches, 4 pairs of diamond ear24 gold brooches and earrings, UK jking 5 diamond sets valued at from MR £35, and 12 gold and diamond tfcarf pins. The total value of the property taken is estimated at between £1500 and £2000. Later. The police and detectives arc actively tfndeavoring to trace the burglars, but as yet they have discovered nothing. The burglars 1 lantern was left behind. Very great sympathy is expressed for Mr Jenness.
