There are rumors as to a probable amalgation of legal firms in the town. There was no buaiuess at the R.M. Court to-day. When the Government announced as they did a week ago, that they can make a saving of £100,000 a year by greatly diminishing the survey dopartment, the publib joy is likely to be tempered by the public apprehension lest the surveys may suffer. If Mr Bailance succeeds in mViung the estimated reduction, without impairing the efficiency of a most important service, his success wiH be great indeed.
