The secretary of the Oldham cotton spinners association has written to the United States Consul, at Manchester, declaring that 1000 tons of sand are paid fir aa cotton every season, and suggesting that the name* of the planter and pucker be placed inside of each bale of cotton. An unsuooessful attempt was made in the Southern district* of London, to imitate nn American crusade against liquor selling, by prayer meetings being held opposite public houses. Some Liverpool speculators made from a quarter to half-a-million pounds by their cotton speculations. The Cotton Spinners' Association are moving to have such speculations absolutely prohibited.
