VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

At the monthly inspection parade of the Town Detachmeut of J. Battery on Thursday last, there were 57 members present. The corps now numbers about 100 members, including the Country Detachment. After the usual inspection'had been held, the under-mentioned promotions were made :— Bombardier Graham to be actingSergt. and Secretary, vice Pram, resigned. Bombardier Fyson to be actingQuartermaster Sergt. vice Large resigned. Bombardiers Bull and Osborne to be Corporals ; Gunners Piesse and Ratcliffe to be Corporals. Gunners Ledger, Edwards, Helps, and Steel c to be Bombardiers. The members were also informed that the Governor had been pleased to appoint Mr. G. Winter as acting Captain, vice Porter resigned, and Mr. Boylan was gazetted as second Lieut. After the parade was dismissed, the members of the Corps attended the annual meeting, at which the usual balance-sheet was read, and the question of supporting the Band was discussed. It was then resolved to appoint Lieut. JBoylan, Sgt-Major Featon. Sgt. Skeet, Corpls. Piesse, Ratcliffe, Gunner Bourke, and Staff-Sgt. Huddleston, to act as a committee to devise ways and means of raising funds for that purpose. A Gymnasium Committee was also formed, consisting of Lieut. Boylan, Sgt. Graham, Gunner Ball, and StaffSgt. Huddleston. The advisability of at once inaugurating popular entertainments was recognised, and we learn that in a very short time they may be expected as accomplished facts, the leading amateur talent in the place having promised their support and assistance.
