[FROM OUR OWN (JOKRKSPONPKNT.] AUCKLAND. This Day. The City Council have abandoned night sittings, which cost £100 per annum extra. The Maori class at the Auckland Grammar School, have abandoned the fees, which only amounted to £2 10s per quarter' while the masters salary was £50. Mr. Sheehan presided yesterday at a dinner given at Cambridge by Harry Symmons, a half-caste, on the occasion of his marriage. John Bellis, of the Exchange Hotel, yesterday fined £10 for permitting gambling in his house. INVEROARGILL. This Day. At a poll of ratepayers, taken yesterday, the proposal to borrow £120,000, for the water supply, and street improvement and gas works extension, was negatived by 519 to 427.
