A POST OFFICE INCIDENT.
Everybody has heard of the unsophisticated lassie m the olden time who went to visit Glasgow and see her sister, and who. on reaching a suburban toll gate, knocked at the Tbar and asked, "Is oor Mary m V The following story of an Irishman's mode of addressing hi* letters is not very dissimilar m its conceptions of individualities and the economy of great citier. His mother is on this side of the Atlantic, and having occasion recently to write to her he addressed his letter to "My Mother, New York, America." Of cpurso it was supposed it must be sent to the dead-letter office ; but on the day of its arrival a woman inquired at the general deliveiy for a letter from "my son." The coincidence attracted the attention of the official m > charge of the deciphering bureau- Inquiry showed that the son of the woman lived m the town whose nnme was postmarked on the letter. After various inquiries, the letter- was given to the woman with the provia.o that she should open it there; and it was found to be from her son, and designed for her.
