This Day. The steamer Ladybird sprung a leak alongside the Dunedin wharf on Thursday night, and has been docked foi\ survey. A Gazette extraordinary issued last night calls Parliament together for despatch of business on. July 11th. The Governor and Premier left last night m the Hinemoa on a flying visit to Taranaki. The. Appeal Court yesterday, gave judgement m the application for a rule absolute for a writ Habeas Corpus m the case of Frederick Gleich, alias Fisher, of Adelaide, a defaulting bankrupt. A rule nisi had been obtained on the ground that under the "Foreign Ottenders Act, 1863," it was ultra vires. The rule was made absolute, and the, prisoner was discharged, but the Chief Justice said that the judges were not unanimous. The Attorney-General did not oppose the discharge of the prisoner, but gave notice cf appeal to the Privy Council as the point was an important one, and should be definitely settled.
