NAPIER.
This Day. ' An obstruction with post wire and bullock chains were placed across the Railway line near Takapau to stop the down train this morning from Kopu. It is supposed this obstrucwas the work of some natives to the recent action of the guai'd on the previous day, who, in the exercise of his ■ duty, stopped the train and turned a Maori out for a breach of the byelaws. The discovery of a Moa's remains has been made at Porangahau by Mr. A. Stewart, while digging in the swamp. Along with the bones was about a pint of stones found which bore the appearance of having been swallowed by the bird for digestive purposes.. The hearing of the charge, against E,. H. McLennan, occupied the R..M. Court the whole of yesterday. There was a crowded attendance. The cross-examination of Dr. Spencer occupied the afternoon. The case is expected to last 3 days more.
