New Racecourse at Waerenga-a-hika.

Mb. J. S. Coopbk, hotel-keeper, at Waeienga-a-luka, is now actively engaged in forming a new racecourse, on very suitable ground, within a distance of one hundred yards from the hotel. The course is a mile and a half round, it lias been ploughed, thoroughly levelled, and hardened with a heavy roller, having been previously laid down in gi aos seed. The running ground is about two chains wide. Trees have been planted for shade. The grand stand (t-nclosed) will contain ladies', stewards', juckeys', aud weighing rooms. There will be saddling paddoCKs, aud all requisites and essentials for "carrying out a good set of races. It is proposed that a race meet shall be held on Monday, the 10th November, in commemoration of the i J iinceof Wales birth — the 9th failing on a Sunday. The events to come off will be 1. Handicap Hurdle ; two miles ; £20. 2. Rack Hurdle ; once round ; £10. 3. Maiden Plate ; one aud-a-nalf miles; £20. 4. Hack Race ; once round ; £10. Winner to be sold. 5. Prince of Wales Handicap ; two miles ; £50. 6. Poverty Bay Plate ; one mile ; ' £20. It is quite possible that larger prizes may be offered, The several events proposed are excellently varied, and so arranged that almost all clases of horses can be brought to the starting post. The whole affair will be under the control and management of gentleman well known on the turf, acting as stewards and in other responsible capacities. In the proposed coming race meet, the numbers of horses will be posted conspicuously on a board fifteen minutes before each race, and the winning number of each horse placed over the judge's box immediately after each event. All this is very creditable to a community like our own, which take great pleasure in turf matters and where there is an honest desire to pro-, duce good horseflesh.
