A trotting match of fifteen miles for £200 a-side, between Mr. W. Evan's (of Rangitikei) mare Nellie, and Mr. T. Milner's horse black Boy, took place on Saturday on the Riccarton-road, Canterbury, and attracted a large assemblage. The course was from the railway gates to the Caldhurst Hotel and back again. Black Boy led from the start, and when passing along the Christchurch racecourse he was nearly 200 yards ahead. The mare then gradually drew up and came up to the horse. About the turn m the run home Black Boy again drew away, and when three-quarters of the distance had been covered led by over 200 yards. The mare was then pulled up, and Black Boy trotted m at an easy pace. The winner was ridden by W. Thompson. The mare had been heavily backed to win, and had the call at the start, but after going a few miles, three and four to one were laid on Black Boy. The wrestling match for the 11 stone championship of the colony came off ai> the Caledonian Grounds, Dunedin, on Saturday afternoon. The competitors were S. Tiffin, who for twenty years was nine stone champion of the world, and who has since his arrival m Dunedin frequently given instances of his powers, and W. Hudson, the winner of the last eleven stone wrestling match at Liverpool, of the all-comers stakes at Invercargill on New Year's Day, and of the all-comers stakes at Dunedin on Easter .Monday. In addition to the championship stakes of £50 a side depended on Saturday's contest. Both men had been m steady training ; Hudson especially, as he had to reduce himself by 14 lbs. since his last appearance m public. R. Allen acted as umpire for Tiffen, J. Morson for Hudson, and J. Marten for referee. The weather was rather unfavorable, the afternoon th^u| dull and cold ; still there were hundreds of people present. Out rounds Tiffen scored four falls, and son scored two. Tiffen therefore^^H the match. Mr. H. Prince's Australian yeai^^J were submitted to auction at C^^H church, on Saturday, by Messrs. <^^H Ford and Co.
