A SUITABLE RECOGNITION.
The following letter from Colonel Reader to Superintendent Shearman, Wellington, relative to the arrest of M'Lennan, at Napier, who was arrested on a charge of larceny, and subsequently charged with poisoning his wife, which is being investigated at Napier to-day, will be read with interest : — N.Z. Constabulary Commissioner's Office Sir,— The Government have received with great pleasure the report of the arrest of M'Lennan on the Patangata Ranges at Napier, which was carried out by Inspector Scully, with the ability and zeal which distinguish that officer, and Colonel Whitmore desires me to say that he is exceedingly pleased with Inspector Scully's conduct and that of Constable Raymond, and that he recognises m this capture how much the influence and example of Mr. Scully has done to increase the efficiency of the force under his charge. The Hon. the Commissioner requests that m communicating the purport of this letter to Mr. Scully you will inform him that he has been granted £25, and Constable Raymond £5, from the reward fund m recognition of their services.
