AUCKLAND.
This Day. An official enquiry is now being instituted m Auckland, respecting charges brought against W. Johnson, head teacher of the Newton East public school. The charges are of a sti'ange and mixed character. The local committe have already enquired into the matter and reported to the board, who have suspended Mi*. Johnson pending a full enquiry. Samuel Bidson has been brought to Auckland, from Whangaroa, suffering from a severe wound : the result of being shot m the right forearm. He was out m the ranges shooting pigeons on Wednesday last, and when coming home lifted his fowling piece by the muzzle, when a twig caught the trigger and the charge lodged m the arm. The floods have caused a good deal of damage on the Waikato Railway line. A portion of the tunnel near Mercer has fallen m. The train had just passed through the tunnel yesterday, when a great mass from the roof and sides fell m with a crash. The schooner Belle Brandon, which arrived from the Pacific Islands on Monday night, reports that war has broken out among the natives m Marshall group. The island of Majuru is the scene of hostilities. Several lives had been lost when the schooner left.
