SCHOONER A DERELICT
ADRIFT AT WESTPORT. DASHED ON TO HARBOUR WALL; The auxiliary schooner Fairborn left the Westport wharf at about 7 p.m. on .Monday for Little Wtinganui to load timber for Wellington. She encountered a very heavy s.ca with a stiff north-easterly as she made the bar and Captain Tom Sawyers decided to return to port. As ho was doing so the vessel was driven on to the western wall, where she. was held for some time, enabling all hands, Captain Sawyers, William and 'Maurice .Sawyers, Stan Lodge, Bernie Avery, ami V, Don to land. The vessel is reported to be drifting up river" and it is now stated that, it. has crossed the river and is ov.cr near the eastern wall close to the wave basin. The vessel belongs to the Karamea .Shipping Company and traded regularly between Wellington and Westport with general cargo, returning to Wellington via Little Wanganui, where she picks up timber.
