Hurry Gardiner, single, a middleaged roadman employed by the Akitio County Council, was blown to piece* with his wliare at Akitio on March 2.1. As he was alone the cause is unknown. All that remained of the body was some small pieces which were collected in a kerosene tin. It is understood 'Gardiner was preparing for the day’s work. He was alone in the whare, and was presumably warming gelignite.
