,We' are reminded that spring is fast -approaching by the receipt of a copy of Cooper’s catalogue and garden guide, issued by F. Cooper, Ltd., seed growers, Wellington. This linn is one of the pioneers of the seed growing industry in New Zealand. During the past few years wonderful success has been obtained ‘with the produce of their seeds at all the principal agricultural and horticultural shows throughout New Zealand. Tho firm makes hundreds of trials each year of all the main vegetable and farm seeds. Every bag of seed they receive is tested for growth by the Department of, Agriculture and also by themselves, and seeds only of the highest germination are - sold. (These trials and germination tests prove the superiority of Cooper ’s Seeds. “ Whoir tobacco has a very pronounced ‘bite,’ ” remarked the coroner at a Chicago inquest (or; ‘..autopsy, ’ as. the Americans say), “it is obvious that it contains too much nicotine, and the habitual use of such tobacco is certainly unwise. It appears that in this case deceased (a house decorator, who died while smoking his pipe), was a heavy' smoker, sometimes using as much as two ounces of tobacco a day. This, tobacco, a sample of which I have analysed, was unusually strong. Its nicotine content was three times as great as it should have been. It gradually affected .the heart, and, its cumulative effect was undoubtedly the cause of death.” Happily New Zealanders run no such risk. Our beautiful New jf ’ , Zealand tobacco is toasted, and this process (necessitating the employment of elaborate machinery and skilled labour) safeguards the smokcr ? because it draws 'out the poisonous nicotine besides imparting. to the tobacco its famous flavour and unequalled fragrance. There are four toasted-brands: Rivorhead Gold) Navy Out No. 3 , (Bulldog), Cavendish, and Cut Plug No. 10 (Bulkhead). unique.
