GOVERNOR GENERAL’S ■ ’ MESSAGE. • • The Town Clerk has . received the following message from His Excellency the Governor General; “May all success attend your histofie ’ceremony next Wednesday, and may it help in cementing oven more closely the brotherhood of Maori and pakeha, and fostering the pride ,of the former in their race and its-noble traditions.—Bledisloe. ’' - THE UNVEILING CEREMONY. . A meeting of the committee in connection with the unveiling of the Turi Memorial was held on Friday afternoon, the Mayor, Councillors Christensen, Haworth, and McKenna, and Messrs. Finlayson, McLean, Tupito, Whakarua, Rev. A. W. Smaill, and Mr. J. Campbell, Mayor of Hawera, being present. , It was unanimously resolved that Mr. P. S. Finlayson be marshal of the procession, which will start from Rutland Street at 2.45 p.m., the actual unveiling: taking place at 3 p.m. On the arrival of the procession Sit the memorial a chant will .be sung by the, natives, after which the various speakers will 1 be . introduced to the gathering -by His Worship the Mayor. Speeches will then: be delivered by Messrs. Tupito, Pancnu'i, Whakarua, H. G.; Dickie, M.P., and the Hon. J. A; Young, who at the conclusion of his speech will unveil the memorial, after which hakas and p9is will bo given by the natives.
