YACHT TEDDY WRECKED

TAMES AND HIS WIFE INJURED,

TWO CHILDREN ESCAPE UNHURT,

Disaster befell the Norwegian yacht Teddy on Wednesday afternoon, the vessel being wrecked on Challenger, or Little Kawau Island, Auckland. The owner and skipper, Erling Tambs, his wife and two children were saved after a harrowing ordeal. Mrs. Tambs, who was rescued while clinging to some wreckage, received a severe cut on the head and Tambs was cut deeply on the leg by the rock.* The children escaped injury. All arc staying at Mansion House, Kawau Island.

Mrs. Tambs was taken from the water bruised and exhausted. Tambs scrambled on to the rocks with his three-year-old son and the baby, and by the time he had placed them in safety Mrs. Tambs had been picked up. Tambs and the children, who were accompanied by their dog mascot, were then taken on board the yacht Ola, which was nearby. Wreckage from the yacht was floating in all directions, and by this time the craft was full of water and listing to seaward on her beam ends.

At 4 p.m. Tambs sot out from Kawau Island again to inspect the wreck. When he returned to Kawdu ho stated that U was impossible to save anything. It was the intention of Mr. Tambs to spend about three months in Queensland before sailing north on his return to Norway. .The- Auckland friends of Mr. and Mrs. Tambs state that the Teddy was not insured and they will bo destitute.
