CYCLIST’S DEATH
RECKLESS DRIVING ALLEGED.
MAORI TO STAND TRIAL,
Pikau Pokau, a Maori, 21 years of age, was on Tuesday committed for trial on a charge of recklessly driving a motor car, thereby causing the death of Reginald Ernest Duggan, 18 years of age, early on the morning of February 26. Deceased w r as riding a push cycle to his home at Normanby after attending the Hawera jubilee celebrations, when a collision with Pokau occurred on the outskirts of Hawera.
An inquest was held conjointly with the lower court proceedings, the verdict of the coroner, Mr. R., S. Sage, being that Duggan’s death resulted from injuries received -when struck by a car driven by Pokau.
