PATEA UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE
ORDINARY AIEETING,
The ordinary meeting of the Unemployment Committee was held on Tuesday, His Worship the Mayor presiding. Messrs. Green, Gibbs, Helton, Christensen, Hemingway, Row, Honeyiicld, and Austin (hon. secretary) were also present.
Air. Belton raised the question of unemployed men working on the wha:
He understood that men had made as much as £5 at the waterfront in a week in addition to the unemployed pay.
The chairman said that he did not know of any men who were doing this. If an unemployed man could get an extra day’s work there was no objection to it.
In reply to Mr. Hemingway, the chairman said that no word had been received about a 44-hour week for unemployed. A letter was read from the Unemployment Board stating that trees ■would be available from the State Forest Service for the cost of lifting and packing. It was decided that copies of the circular be sent to each local body in the district.
There being no further business, the meeting rose.
