WAVERLEY

TERRITORIALS IN CAMP. MAJOE BERTRAND IN COMMAND. A territorial camp under the new establishment of the Taranaki Eogiment commenced at the Waverlcy Racecourse on Monday, and will continue for a week. The camp will consist of several units from the Ist Battalion Wanganui and West Coast Regiment.

Nos. 1 and 2 Platoons of the machinegun section, and the Signal Platoon left New Plymouth on Monday morning. The Intelligence Section joined up at Inglewood, and tho Nos. 3 and 4 Platoons of the Machine-gun Section joined at Stratford and Hawcra. respectively. The Regimental Band under Lieut. P. W. G. McLeod, also accompanied the party.

In charge of the Taranaki Battalion was Lieut. Colonel 'G. P. Bertrand, with Major F. S. Varnham, M.C., second in command. Captain F. L. Hunt, N.Z. S.C., is adjutant, and R.S.M., S.S.M J. S. King and S.S.M., J. T. E. Bell, N.Z.P.C., will be present as instructors. Chaplain-Major Archdeacon C. H. Gavin also accompanied the party, as did Major A. E. Conway, Brigade Major, 2nd N.Z.1.8. The Wanganui officers who will be in camp, are Lieut. Colonel Cade and Captain D. T. Maxwell, N.Z.S.C.
