“TICK”
in the good, or bad ; old days ("point of view), folk knew the meaning of the word “self-denial.” They waited, saved, and paid cash. By so doing they built up the character of self-re-liance; the stuff that helped to build our Empire. Nowadays, they get what they want first, and pay for it “some time.” Houses, motor cars, furniture, etc., etc., are bought on “tick;” even the'clock is on “tick;” the lick on. the bed they sleep on is on “tick;” so they may be said to sleep on. “tick.” The alarm clock, on “tick,” wakes them in the morning. Thev come into the world on “tick” (owing the. doctor). They depart this life on “tick” (owing the undertaker). They will probably try to get in(o heaven on “tick;” and if then 1 is no credit allowed they will try some other place on “tick” (or “Xick”). So tin! outstanding feature or characterisin' of our modern civilisation would appear to be “tick.”—-“Farm-ing First.”
