As is usual with events Unit have been postponed die attendance was not what it would nave been, Btiil those who braved the elements were treated to a most enjoyable day 'V sport. The committee Had gone to a great amount of trouble in preparing for the various events, and deserved to have., their efforts crowned with success. Mr. A. Mercer was again successful in the open leaping competition, ami as his horse Gilgai lias now won the cup three times it becomes his property. The trotting events proved very popular, and added additional interest to the day’s proceedings. The, entries, unfortunately, except in the open trot, in which there wore eight, were not large, but the contests proved very exciting, that in the open event being particularly close. The officials are to bo heartily con gratulatcd on the success of their efforts, under somewhat trying and ad verso circumstances, owing to tile weather, one and ali, from the genial president (♦Mr. F. W. Tarrant) and the vice-president (Mr. F. Tong) downwards, working imlefatigably to make the function a success. Mr. C. Lord, the secretary, carried out his duties thoroughly and well, and proved himself the right man in the right place. The members of the IT tea Municipal Band, under Bandmaster Spooner, enlivened the proceedings with a number of selections during the afternoon, and deserve a special mead of praise for their presence at no small amoui?t of inconvenience to some members, wi had to leave their work to fulfil their engagement. Among - the visitors duv ing the afternoon were Mr. H. G. Dickie, M.P., Mr. P. H. Finlayson, Mayo cf Patca, Mr. B, Blake (Hawera), and itr. T. Blake (Whangarci). In Ih evening the usual dance was held, and the trophies won during the day wore presented to the winners by M,r. Tarrant. The following are the results of the various events.—

Mr. Myers’ Ju J'u (C. Miles) 1 Mr. X. Hamlin’s entry (S. Mediae) 2 Eight started. A splendid race. Mr. Hamlin’s horse led for the first mile, with Mr. Myers’ entry hanging close to him till within about a couple of furlongs of the winning post, when Myles called on his mount for a supremo effort and he headed Mediae's mount by three-quarters of a length. Both riders gave a splendid exhibition of horsemanship, riding with great y-figment.
