A very old resident of Palmerston North, Mr. G. J. Scott, passed away a few days ago. In an obituary the “Standard” records that Mr. Scott enlisted with (he militia at the time of the Maori Whir, faking part in the battle at Weraroa Redoubt, in addition to other engagements, .which gained for him the New Zealand decoration. He was one of the four remaining survivors of that -stirring battle —an incident in the Dominion’s history the memory of which will long outlive the fast decreasing band of participants. Mr. Pringle, commercial agent of the Railway Department, was a visitor to Patea on Wednesday. The marriage took place recently of Airs. Huia Pulley to Mr. Rolland Reid, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Reid, of Opawa.
