WAVERLEY SCHOOL. CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT AND PRIZE-GIVING. The annual entertainment and prizegiving in connection with the V'avermy Public School was. held on Wcdncsaay, Mr. G. Spratt, chairman of the committee, presiding over a large gathering of parents and friends. Mr. W. A. Collins, chairman of Education Board, and Mr. Hogg, chief agricultural instructor, were also present. The programme, which was a .eugthy one, was excellently rendered ov the children, and reflected the greatest credit on Mr. Browning (headmaster) and his callable staff, who wore responsible for the training of the young, tors. Mr. B.owning’s annual report was read.

Mr. Collins, who was received with .ppiause, said he did not feel that ho ..ceded any introduction, as ho had ■eon a pupil at the Waverley School ,U years ago, and was well known to .nose of the people in the hall. Ho .vas very pleased to come to Waverley, and on turning his thoughts backward .;o was amazed at the rapid strides education had made. Ho came with ihe intention of speaking for an hour jut would cut it down to a few minutes. Mr. Browning and his staff had ~ono excellent work, and he would like .0 heartily congratulate them. Mr. Jollins also addressed a few words to .Rose who had got their proficiency cersilicates, and were leaving the school. They would, he said, only pass through .his way but once, and he encouraged Rem to do all the good they could. He congratulated the performers, and was glad to be .able to bo present. Hi nad been unfortunate in not being able .o be present at their last performance. He would like to thank those responsible for the items in a fine entertainment. Waverley was one of the best jf sx'hools, turning out not only good scholars but good gardeners as well, r'he committee had done splendid work and they needed all the encouragement .hey could get from the parents. The inspector’s report was one of the fiost ho had ever seen. (Applause.) Mr. Collins then called for three cheers for Mr. Browning and tho staff, which were heartily given, and the singing of the “National Anthem” brought a very pleasant evening.to a close.
