“MADAME X” The first of the new Goldwyn production, “Madame X,” starring the wellknown emotional actress, Pauline Frederick, will be seen to-night. The screen has inherited from the stage no more powerful drama than ‘'Madame X,” which contains every clement the screen story demands—romance, intrigue, pathos, humour and tragedy. The story tells of Jacqueline Floriot, who is turned from her home by thic unjust suspicion of her husband. Denied the affection , of her little sou, whom she loves dearly, she seeks solace in the underworld of Paris. Years pass, and her husband, grown in political influence, became the Judge of a Paris criminal Court, and, strangely, enough, Jacqueline’s murder of a blackmailer 'who would have ruined his career, brought her before hig bar of justice for punishment. Another cruel twist of Fate places her son as counsel for her defence. Pauline Frederick brings to the screen in the role of “Madame X’’ a superb portrayal of this pathetic figure, whose life story will be followed by picturogoors with sympathetic interest, so near is it to perfect realism. -
