BUTTER AND CHEESE
NEW ZEALAND’S EXPORTS LONDON, August 30. Wecldd’s review of the dairy produce trade states that imports have now returned to pre-war jwoportions. Supplies of butter from overseas during the year ended June 30 exceeded all previous records, amounting to 229,061 tons, of which Denmark sent 81,982, New Zealand 63,619, Australia 32,850, Canada 7638, the Argentine 22,159. The proportion of Empire supplies to the total imports was 45 per cent., compared with 20 per cent, in 1913-14. Cheese imports, which had only once been exceeded, were 138,803 tons, of which New Zealand sent 73,125 tons, Canada 45,828, and Australia 2769. GOOD PRICES IN LONDON STRONG ADVANCE IN CHEESE LONDON, August 30. The butter market is very firm. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 186/to 190/-;. Australian, very scarce, ISO/-, secondaries 150/- to 170/-; Danish, 190/-. Cheese has advanced strongly. New Zealand is bringing 118/- to 120/-, chiefly duo to the advance in Canadian, which is quoted at 116/-, c.i.f. It in believed the rise is mainly owing to American speculative purchases. The market clsed with a slightly easier tendency.
