Like the majority of his fellowsubjects) the Prince was taking a wellearned holiday. He was travelling incognito. Under the comparatively modest title of the Earl of Chester, which has belonged to the heir-apparent since the days of William the Conqueror, ho can escape to some extent the .fierce light that beats upon the Prince of Wales. He did not, however, escape recognition. To the delight of the crowd, a saucy lass from Doncaster leaned out from her third-class window compartment and called, laughingly, “Do come in among the girls!” The Prince blushed and laughed.
