PATEA PUBLIC LIBRARY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of subscribers of the Patea Public Library was held on Friday night, Mr G. H. Stephenson presiding. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL EEPOET. The annual report was read as follows: The Subscribers ’ Committee appointed to carry on the Patea Public Libra, ry completed their fourth year of oHE.ee on 31st March, 1922. The audited statement of accounts for the year is now before you. The Government subsidy was withdrawn last year so that about £l3 less was spent on new books than otherwise ‘would have been the case. The Borough subsidy of £25 has now been paid to 30th September, 1921 only, but as stated on a previous evasion, we have hopes. Books. — 140 new books wore pur- J chased during the year. The jtt is not too good and calls for careful handling by subscribers. It is cheapo? \ to buy new books than go in for rebinding. The total number of books issued during the year was 8217. Subscribers— 1919, 48; 1920, 66; 1921 87; 1922 ? 99. Our goal of 100 annual subscribers gets nearer. A warning. 1 — An individual who shall be nameless at.present cuts portions of the racing news out of papers in the Beading Boom. He is known and could be prosecuted. The individual referred to may not be aware that the offence he is guilty of is regarded at law as a serious one. The Committee hope that the publication of these remarks will remove the cause of complaints made by various subscribers and the public. Our best thanks are dhe to Messrs G. ' O. Taylor for the London Times, T. L. Jones and Arthur Jones for magazines, Eev. A. A. C. Lion for “Daily Mirror” “Timaru Herald,” and the “People’s Sunday,” all supplied free of cost.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS, For twelve months ended 31/3/22. The statement of accounts for the year was read as follows:RECEIPTS

The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The following were elected a commit- ' tee for the year:— Messrs Stephenson, Power, Findlay, Gilbert, A. Jones, Roberts and Rev. A. A. C.= Lion.

The Chairman paid a high tribute to the work of the Librarian, Mrs Bromiley during the past year and moved that a bonus of £5/5/. be granted her in appreciation, of her services. The resolution was seconded by Mr Roberts and carried unanimously. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the Chairman and Secretary for the work carried out during the year and the meeting terminated.' A meeting of the new committee was subsequently held at which Mr Stephenson was re-elected Chairman and Mr J. Power, Secretary.
