Mr Will Hutchens has been appointed conductor of the Wanganui Orchestral Society. Mr V. G. Day, S.M., having gdne south, Mr Wilson, S.M., of Auckland, has arrived in Wanganui. He will occupy the magisterial bench until Mr S.M. is able to resume .duty.

The Prime Minister spends Anzac Day in his own electorate. He leaves Wellington on, Monday and expects (to return on the Wednesday or Thursday following.

A London cable states that Mr Winston Churchill, while riding at Eaton Mall, Chester, had a bad fall and was much shaken. It is hoped he will re. cover in a few days.

The many friends of Mr J. C. McLauchlan, County Engineer, will regret to learn that he will be leaving this, district shortly having accepted the appointment of clerk and engineer to the Waixnate (5.1.) County Council. Mr McLauchlan will take up his duties about June Ist next.

A correspondent states that Mrs MeLaron, whose engagement to Colonel B. G. Frey berg, V.C., formerly of Wellington, was recently announced, has a most delightfully original house in Smith Square, London, where the decorations are mostly Italian. ' The steel floor in the dining room, is original, hut very slippery.
