PATEA DOMAIN.
X AN OUTSIDE TBIBUTE
Th c Hawera “Star" has the following in a recent issue with regard to the Patea Domain. It says:— Recognising the asset which the Domain' is to the town the residents of the Patea district are spending the sum of £IBSO, raised by means of a queen carnival, in erecting buildings and generally improving the Domain. In the capable hands of Messrs Gunn Bros, the work is already well under way, the building of the new grandstand being practically completed, the playing area ring-fenced with concrete posts and jarrah top rails, and a start made with the erection of a ‘‘training ' building. In place of the old building ■which previously did service as grandstand, there is now a solidly built one with a seating accommodation for 450 people. This building will b e named the “Besley ’ ’ Stand in honour of the carnival queen Mrs Besley. A largo building measuring 80 ft by 50 feet, to be used chiefly for training purposes, will add the finishing touch to the picturesque Domain. Every convenience will be provided and the ..ioor will be covered with tan for training purposes. It is expected that the whole of the work will be completed in about a month’s time. The playing ground itself has always been noted for many excellent qualities, chief amongst which is the excellent turf which never gets muddy in wet weather. Nevertheless an im. provement will be made there as the Sports Ground Committee has been pro vided with a horse mower and it is their intention to keep the grass cut through both summer and winter.
When oue remembers that the pres, cut is a period of financial stringency, the enterprise of the Patea residents is the more commendable.
