COMEDY' OF FOUR LOST GUNS.
Four guns left by (he Germans in Dutch Limburg during their groat retreat at the end of the war have been an amusing source of difficulty to the Council of Ambassadors sitting in Paris. The fate of the guns lias been under discussion since August, 1010, and the volumes of correspondence exchanged on (he subject would fill a good-sized bookshelf.
The guns, which are of ordinary field artillery type, flu-mod a battery attached to one of the last divisions to quit Belgium. Worn out with fatigue and more than half starved, the horses which were dragging them collupsed as the Germans wore entering Dutch territory, and (here (he guns have boon stranded just a few hundred yards from .the frontier posts ever since.
The final decision which was arrived at is a masterpiece of legal subtlety. The Germ ans arc to go and fetch the gnus from Limburg as if (he retreat was still continuing. Once they have the guns the Germans are to hand them over to General Noilct, in charge of the Disarmament Commission, •‘.ho \v"ill send them to Belgium..
