’Wei.t.ixutox, June 2. Giving evidence before the Conciliation Hoard in the seamen’s dispute, Mr James Milis, manager of the Union Company, said the men’s demands would involve an increased expense of £I7OO per annum. Already they paid £15,000 more in wages than their lleot would cost if run by an Australian company, and if the headquarters were removed to Australia an expenditure of between £200,000 and £300,000 would be lost to the colony. Ho also urged that as the Huddart, Parker Company were not joined in the proceedings they might have to run side by side with another company working at lower rates of pay.
