THE TROUBLES OF THE FARMER.
Brisbane, Nov. 22. In addition to the decimation of flocks by drought, ticks are unusually trouble - I some in the north, and many cattle are succumbing to his attacks.’ The heavy mortality, according to some experts, is due to the disease known as “ red water.” but other experts combat this theory, and hold that the deaths are ' caused by fever induced by attacks tf myriads of ticks. The symtoms, they con tend, are quite distinct from those of the “red water ” disease, which they allege is unknown in the North. The burning off of grass has been found to be a good check to the pest and largely reduces the mortality of stock.
