“ Last week I alluded to tbe refusal of a medical man to give evidence in a case of attempted suicide at Eavuham, Ena: land, because his expenses were not paid. The question is discussed fiom another I point of view by a cox-respondent, who J points out that the Bench were apparently willing to dispose of the charge summarily if the doctor gave his evi donee, whereas through his x-efusal the prisoner was cammitted for trial. It i« unfortunate that tbe prisoner should suffer, but of course this does not in any 1 way affect the justice and reasonablos '"ness of the principle for which the doctor stood out. The law should be alierod to enable tbe Bench to allow j expenses in such a cas-, and then there ; would bo no hardship on either the wit* ness or the accused,” Laboudiero in Truth,
