ENGLISH POLITICS.

The result of the Home elections appear to be terribly drastic in their effect on the Liberal Party, which so far as present information is concerned, seems to be well nigh annihilated. It was ever so, and no doubt ever will be. It is perfectly impossible to “run” a country without taxation; and it is equally impossible to run one without, the brains born of generations of educated and experienced men. Liberals glory in the idea of government of the people by the people; but history has proved beyond all doubt that what “ the people ” like to call “ the people ” are not a success as a governing body, and invariably have to replaced by the much-scorned so-called Conservatives in order that the errors may be rectified and omissions filled up, so that the finances of the country may be placed on a fairly even keel and understandable basis. So far as can be gathered as yet the Conservatives and Unionists will go back to Parliament with a good healthy majority, and one that will keep them in office long enough to make a thorough overhaul of the Governmental machinery and see to its perfect repair and renovation.
