The next English Mail via Frisco closes at the Post Cilice hero at 11 am. tomorrow. Mr Cowern advertises the sale of the balance of stock in (ho estate of 8. Taplin for Saturday next. The now Licensing Committee hold its first nieetingjin the Courthouse yesterday, when R. A. Adam?, Esq., was elected Chairman. That being all the business, the committee adjourned. G. 8. Bridge, Esq., Judge of the Assessment Court, held the usual sittings yesterday, when there was not a ingle objection to investigate. Mr Bridge complimented the valuer on (ho result of his labours, signed the roll, and adjourned ihc court. The Star of Patea Lodge, 1.0. G.T. held its usual weekly meeting on Wednesday last. There was a fair attendance of members. A letter 1 was read from Bro. Robbins, G.S.J.T., Hawora, saying that lie would be present at the tea mooting on Monday next. This lea-meeting promises to bo a success, the Committee doing all in their power to make it so. The proceeds are for a worthy object, and we have no doubt the public will recognise this and give it the hearty support it deserves, and in so doing help the young folks along in their noble work.

Wo had to-day the pleasure ol ! inspecting a double sealed buggy just completed by our well-known local firm of coachbuilders, Messrs McCarty and Hunger. There are people no doubt in every community who consider it the *• right thing ” to import every possible item that can be imported, but if we arc not much mistaken in our judgment, people in want of a buggy may go further and will fa i- e worse by importing than by employing thin local linn. Mr W. Locker was evidently of this opinion, and gave his order locally and the result must be eminently satisfactory, for not only is lho wood and iron work of the best possible quality, but the finish is of lirst-clasa order. The buggy is coloured lake, and pricked out with bine and gold, the oxcolh-nt finish of which docs great credit to Messrs McCarthy and Hunger’s establishment. The trimming is in lake Morroeco ami black patent, and was furnished am! fixed by Mr J. Graham in his usual masterly style. Mr Graham also supplies the harness which is of very high order, the mountings [icing in solid nicklc silver of a very taking pattern.
