MANAIA.

[from our own correspondent.] The cricket match between Oeo and Manaia on Saturday was won by the home team. A very enjoyable game was played, as the ground was in capital order, thanks to the energetic Secretary’s efforts. Last football season tho ground was very much knocked about, but it is to be hoped that it will meet with better treatment next winter, as Mr Dawson has spent a great deal of time in getting it into such order. I regret to hear that Mr Cuff, solicitor, who has been a resident here during the last six months, is about to take his departure for Marton. A “bee” was held by the School Committee and friends, numbering about a dozen, on Saturday last, to erect swings, mend fences, and attend to other little repairs. They worked hard all daj', thus saving tho Board a nice little sura. The children are delighted with the additions to their play ground. We have had very stormy weather for tho last two days, and I fear that a good deal of damage will bo caused by it to crops of grass seed. Tho large room is being removed from Fort Manaia into the township. It is to bo placed on the section adjoining the Post Office, and used as a Court House. It has been found practicable, by taking it to pieces, to remove it without disturbing the parapet around the camp. Major Gudgeon paid a flying visit to his old quarters a short time ago. Mr Nairn has returned from his trip t© Hobart, and is looking much better for it. Mr Barton, of the Bank of Australasia, leaves to-day for Wanganui.
