Two Kilbirnie worthies, named Wull and Jock, were, as their noses denoted, very fond of a wee drap of spirits. We have received letters complaining about the peculiar action of the Volunteers on Monday evening, but refrain from publishing them as probably no good could come by doing so ; at the same time we must acknowledge that the company—or officer in charge, who ever he was—shewed a great want of discretion in choosing the first dark evening of tho season to go down on to the Domain Ground for blank firing practice. It is very easy to let the inhabitants know of such an intention when animals, known to be afraid of rifle reports could be secured and unnecessary nervous fear on tho part of ladies prevented, but even apart from this it is somewhat difficult to understand the object of going through blank firing practice at a time when the men could not see each other, not to mention the correctness of the practice being noted by the officer in charge. We hope in future some more suitable time will be chosen for this practice, or reasonable notice given of the intention.
