PATEA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The Autumn Show of the above Society was held in the Harmonic Hall yesterday. The display, both of fruit and flowers, was an excellent one, when the unfavourable season is taken into consideration. The entries were numerous, and the general appearance of the hall was extremely pleasing, In pot plants the honours were pretty fairly divided between Messrs C. Orchard and A. Williamson, eacii gentleman showing an interesting collection of plants. Mr Williamson’s Begonia was very handsome and much admired. An elegant flowering Begonia, shown by Mr

Orchard, i.luo .attracted attention. The same gentleman show 0 a handsome specimen of the Aspedestra Lucida, the Japanese flax plant. A foschia, exhibit!’l by Mr Deiref, had an exceed gly One bloom and secured a deserv d first. Mrs Wray took the prizes fr single and double petunias. Mr H. E. P. Adams also had a few exhibits in this class, the prettiest being a well grown coleus. The cut flowers were, as usual, a feature of the show, and it will be seen from the prize list that there was considerable competition. The class for fruit was well filled, and some of the exhibits were very fine. Mr J. Paterson took the lion’s share of prizes, having a great variety. He showed 45 different kinds of apples, 12 pears, besides peaches, plums,&c. The vegetables were excellent. Taken altogether the show was one of the bestyetheld here.
