CRICKET.-TO-MORROW'S MATCH .

We need hardly remind our readers that the match with the Auckland team, which for the last month has been exciting the utmost interest in Cricket Circles, will be ployed in the Domain to-morrow, commencing at eleven o’clock. The names of those chosen to do battle for the honor of Patea are as follow : Jacob (captain), Dead, Jacotnb, Newton, Fulton, Doneghuc, Dixon, hatching, Tennent, Taplin, and 0. Harden: Emergency, White and Gibbons. The merits of the Auckland team are highly spoken of, but we do not despair that the local men will make a good fight of it. Besides good play two things are needed to make the match a success, viz : fine weather and a large attendance of the public. The first seems assured and for the second we have very little doubt about that. A good Cricket Match generally attracts the British public, and the present should prove no exception to the rule. There is an additional reason why we hope to see a goodly number present. The Cricket Club, although not in funds, have plnckily contributed £lO towards the travelling expenses of the team, and this item, together with the fee for the band, which will be in attendance to - morrow afternoon, will fall very heavily, upon them unless the public contribute liberally by means of their admission fee. The secretary informs ns that special provision will be made for ladies, as it is anticipated that they will attend in force. The match will last two days, and, as a half holiday has been proclaimed, no doubt the opportunity for a little pleasant relaxation will be indulged in by most townspeople. The Canterbury cricketers have just beaten the other Auckland team, aiid it now remains for our men to follow their example—if they can. As an inducement to individual effort we may mention that Mr Taplin has promised a bat for the highest scorer in the local team in the match.
