Yon.vo Mk.v’s Mutual Imi'ROvkmk.vt Sociktv.— The usual fortnightly meeting of this society will be held on Thursday evening, at 8 p.m. This society is very well supported by the young men in the district, and with proper management ought to be for their mutual benefit. .maoistuatk’s court. Captain Wray held his Court in the Town Hall on Monday, when the following cases were tried McDonald v. Wicks.—Claim, £5 Bs, for damage to property. The defendant had been putting up some fencing near plaintiff’s land, and had used some swamp grass, &c., in the erection of a temporary hut,as it appeared, upon plaintiff’s ground, carting away the material which he considered of any use after his work was finished. This gave rise to the present action. Defendant had offered what he considered the value of the material if it was to be valued, but this did not suit plaintiff’s views of value ; hence the present action. In his evidence, plaintiff was rather hazy as to how the amount claimed was made up. The Magistrate’s questions, with the answers elicited, giving an opportunity to sec something of the merits of the case, ho gave judgment for £1 damages, with 11s costs. Police v. Kercopa.—This was a case of drunk and disorderly. No appearance. Fined £l, or 48 hours’ imprisonment. He will probably be to seek, for money is scarce, and time no object. Hurley v. Simpson,—Claim, £6 12s 6d, for goods supplied. Judgment by default. This terminated the business of the Court.
