EXTRAORDINARY TESTIMONIAL TO DR. KENEALY.
Thk committee of the Leicester branch of the Dr. Kcuealy Testimonial Fund have forwarded to the doctor a cheque for £229 is 2d, being, after deducting expenses, the balance of £503 7s Id raised towards *hc fund, and which they have accompanied by the following characteristic address : “To Edward Vaughan Kenea.lv Esq., L.L.D.’ M.P.” “ Sir —The shameful insults, the cruel slanders, the false and infamous charges which you have so unjustifiably and so wickedly published in the “ Englishman” newspaper against the leading friends of the Claimant and other good people, have induced many ot the subscribers to the Leicester branch of your Testimonial Fund to write to the honorary treasurer, T. M. Evans, Esq., J. ,P. , expressing their regret that they had .subscribed lor the benefit of one who had proved himself so unworthy ol their esteem, and desiring him to appropriate their subscriptions for the benefit of the Claimant’s family, or for any other good purpose he might select. This desire on the part of the subscribers placed the honorary treasurer in a somewhat difficult position. He, however, alter line consideration, expressed his wish that the money collected should he forwarded to von, although he considered that you were most unworthy to become the recipient th'reofi The subscribers consented to the wish expressed by the honorarv treasurer, hut on the conditions that the fund should not be presented on a public platform, or with any public demonstration whatever, but lor.varded hv cle-que, made payable to you—E. \ . Kenealv— accompanied by a list or the subscribers and a general statement ot tiie accounts, and which cheque, list, and .statement should he delivered to you personally, through a solicitor, in order that yon might not hereafter, be in a position to deny the receipt of the same.
